Everyone's heard of the dreaded guy with to much time on his hand who calls up and yells the competitors slogan over your airwaves, you've probably heard how KISS 92 in Toronto got it's website advertised on its competitors airwaves. Now stations have they're big money winners showing up in the competitons t-shirt, or a female win the man's prize-pack.
What happens when someone listening over the internet wins a prize, sure nobody will care if it's CD or something but how will your hometown listeners feel if they miss out on the big prize and someone from the other coast wins. You can't exactly say no sorry you can't play your to far away. You could cross your fingers and hope that the 10-20 second buffer that the internet streamer runs means they miss out, you could start taking the first caller I guess.
Better question, what are your hometown listeners going to think when you run internet contests....yes, they're already being run.
Anyway I'm getting off topic....but at least when someone who prefers anothers station calls/wins etc your listeners can sympatize and maybe get even for you but how happy are they going to be when your winner is a 1000 miles away.
