When Corus launched the format in the Vancouver market just over a year ago, we believed that it was the right strategy and that we would make significant inroads in capturing the all-news listener and advertiser. We believed that the audiences would tune to this format. We were wrong and despite incredible effort and commitment from the NW2 staff, performance of the station has not met the projections we planned for when we introduced this strategy.
As a result of our decision to change the direction of the station, we have informed a number of staff at the station that their positions have been eliminated. The decision in no way reflects upon the work or performance of these employees. They were behind management’s plan 100% and it is unfortunate that this programming strategy has not been as successful as others that we have launched.
The radio market is becoming increasingly competitive and challenging and we will be developing a new direction for CJNW in the coming months. We will share the details of our plans with you when they are finalized.
